Stone Quaker Meeting

The Quaker Meeting at Stone was established in 1978 by two local Friends, Peter and Joan Holland.  For several years we met in their home, but then we moved to a room in St Dominic’s Priory where we remained for several more years before returning to the Friends’ home while we sought more permanent accommodation. In 2003, we moved to rented accommodation in Stone's restored Victorian Railway Station, which has proved ideal for our purpose, despite the high speed trains.

Meeting for Worship.   Held every Sunday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., followed by tea / coffee and biscuits.  Special arrangements are made for Easter Sunday and over the Christmas / New Year period.

Children's Class.  Children's classes are held approximately every four weeks on an irregular basis.  Children are welcome to attend at any time, but we would appreciate prior warning so that we can make proper arrangements for them.  Children's Class Contact: Anne Orme, Tel 01785 819659.

Special Events. Occasionally we organise outings when many of us go out for the day to visit other Meetings and then have lunch at a local pub or restaurant. For example, we have been to Leek, Uttoxeter, Ironbridge,  Bakewell and Church Stretton.

In March 2006, many of us spent a very memorable weekend with some of our non-Quaker friends at Glenthorne, a Quaker guest house at Grasmere in the Lake District. See 'Our Lakeland Weekend' for further details and some photographs.

In March 2007, twenty-five of us had a memorable short-weekend of leisurely activities, including an evening bonfire,  at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham. See 'Our Short-weekend at Woodbrooke' for further details and photographs of this most pleasurable event.  Various personal accounts of the event appear in the July 07 edition of the Staffordshire Quaker.
